خلاصه داستان : «رندل مک‌مورفی»، مردی سرزنده، بی‌قید و قانون‌گریز، برای فرار از کار اجباری زندان، خودش رو دیوانه جا می‌زنه و به آسایشگاه روانی منتقل می‌شه. اما چیزی که به‌نظرش بازی ساده‌ای می‌اومد، خیلی زود تبدیل به نبردی خاموش با سیستم سرکوبگر آسایشگاه و به‌ویژه پرستار سرد و مقتدر «رتچد» می‌شه.

A petty criminal fakes insanity to serve his sentence in a mental ward rather than prison. He soon finds himself as a leader to the other patients—and an enemy to the cruel, domineering nurse who runs the ward.
