خلاصه داستان : الجزیره، سال ۱۹۳۸. «مرسو»، کارمندی آرام، کم‌حرف و بی‌ادعا در اوایل دههٔ سی زندگی‌اش، در مراسم خاکسپاری مادرش شرکت می‌کند، بی‌آنکه حتی اشکی بریزد. روز بعد، او رابطه‌ای ساده و بی‌تعهد را با «ماری»، یکی از همکارانش، آغاز می‌کند و خیلی زود دوباره به روال عادی و روزمرهٔ زندگی خود بازمی‌گردد.
